Writer-Director-Actor Amy Reedy is most known for writing for James Franco's feature film adaptation of "Don Quixote" (now on Netflix); for Winning Best Student Film at the LA Int. Underground Film Festival for the electro-pop musical she wrote and starred in, "Love Song"; and for writing and directing viral YouTube videos, with one at over 2 million views on YouTube, LGBT film "Truth or Drink."
A creator of dramatic dystopians, quirky comedy-dramas, and lovable LGBT films, Reedy earned her MFA from USC’s School of Cinematic Arts. She developed her artistic voice around relationships and human behavior with the help of her unique background in social research as an expert on gender, sexuality, and criminology.
As a "triple threat" Writer-Director-Actor for comedy-drama "Girl in her Twenties," Reedy drew upon her personal experiences to tell a story of the ever-changing identities and ever-complicated relationships that young women discover as they come of age. But Reedy also utilized her background in social research on "gender performance" to tell this story. Awarded by the International Sociological Honors Society and presented by her to the ASA Conference in 2008, Reedy's "Longitudinal Study of Female Gender Performance" gave her unique insight into the specific ways women come to perform their gender differently from men, and how this changes over time.
Reedy led "Girl in her Twenties" to success in distribution (IndieFlix, BitPix), and also at film festivals (Best Short Film Nom. Female Eye Film Festival, Toronto; HollyShorts Film Festival, Grauman’s Chinese Theatres; Cannes Short Film Corner; Carmel Int. Film Festival).
But Reedy has also delved into the darker aspects of human nature as well. In writing her 300p novel "Dandelion Dead," Reedy drew upon her background in criminology to create a lawless dystopian future of predatory survivors. Utilizing her experience as a legal assistant to the LA Federal Public Defenders Habeas Unit, as well as her own research on pedophilia from Cambridge University, she created characters based on the sociopaths and serial killers she worked with. Clients who weren't so great to chat with on the phone, but still excellent research for her characters.
Currently being sent out to literary agents, Reedy has proactively directed a "Dandelion Dead" Book Trailer. With this book serving as a basis for future cinematic endeavors, she brought on actors Kelsey Reinhardt ("Transparent") and Justin Cone ("Glee") to put this post-apocalyptic romantic thriller into motion at www.dandeliondead.com
In the commercial world, she has written and directed over 70 video advertisements for website HealthQueens, a platform with a following of over 200,000, and won the AT&T Business Circle “Real Stories” Contest with the AT&T commercial she wrote and directed, "Gelateria Uli."
In the creative world, her video art that she wrote, directed, and starred in - "MOONKISS" - was screened at Mischa Barton's Art Show, "My Boyfriend was Stolen by Tron.” Reedy's work has been reviewed on the Hollywood Reporter, Subway.com, AfterEllen.com, Volcom, InDTV, and art critic website LadyGunn.
